IN CELEBRATION OF THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DECLARATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE, KCCC PRESENTS A MUSICAL ABOUT JOSE RIZAL, THE NATIONAL HERO OF THE PHILIPPINES, AND HIS FIRST LOVE, LEONOE RIVERA.
In 1996, Ms. Chavez was asked by the Cultural Center of the Philippines to create a program to commemorate the centennial of Jose Rizal’s death and the ensuing program was CARTAS DE AMOR. By way of letters and songs, it tells the tragic love story between Jose Rizal and his one true love, Leonor Rivera. The script is based on Rizal’s correspondence with friends and relatives.
